Latvia exposed an fsb agent network of the russian federation
Latvia’s State Security Service has reported the exposure of an agent network of russia’s fsb coordinated by administrators of the Telegram channel “Antifascists of the Baltics”, who are linked to russian intelligence services. Members of the network collected information on Ukrainians and russians in Europe who support Ukraine, monitored military facilities and NATO bases, and disseminated pro-russian propaganda.
▫️ The activities of the “Antifascists of the Baltics” channel are aimed at shaping an environment in which the Baltic states are portrayed as being “occupied by Anglo-Saxons” and potentially ready to welcome russian military intervention as a “liberation from Nazis in power.” The channel also promotes contract service in the russian army and recruits russian-speaking foreigners into the ranks of the russian armed forces.
▫️ According to Latvian law enforcement, the network included socially vulnerable individuals of various backgrounds — from security guards and bloggers to entrepreneurs with significant debts. A separate component of the network’s activities involved advertising contract service in the russian army and attempting to recruit russian-speaking foreigners.
This case demonstrates a typical kremlin tactic: using ideologically conditioned online communities as sources of intelligence and as potential infrastructure for destabilization. Even fragmentary, on-the-ground observations can hold intelligence value and be used in preparing military scenarios.
