Fake news about AFU allegedly preparing a “chemical provocation”
russian propaganda has intensified disinformation about “Ukrainian chemical weapons,” spreading a false claim that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are allegedly preparing a “chemical provocation.”
▫️ russia’s ministry of defense has accused Ukraine of planning a “terrorist attack” involving the detonation of 550 tons of ammonia in Novotroitske, located in the temporarily occupied part of Donetsk region.
This is a textbook example of the “information alibi” tactic: russia preemptively blames Ukraine for actions it may be planning to carry out itself. Such fakes can be used as informational cover for real terrorist attacks or provocations on occupied territories.
▫️ At the same time, the russian ministry of defense has once again accused Ukraine of systematically using chemical weapons — without presenting any credible evidence.
▫️ The renewed focus on “Ukrainian chemical weapons” is likely linked to the sanctions imposed by the United Kingdom on July 7 against the command of russia’s radiation, chemical, and biological defense forces for their use of chemical weapons. Instead of accepting responsibility for its own crimes, tussia is attempting to shift attention onto Ukraine.
russia’s statements lack any objective evidence and contradict documented facts. In reality, it is russian forces that have repeatedly used chemical weapons against Ukrainian defenders — as confirmed by the Ukrainian General Staff and international bodies.
