Why is russia’s propaganda rhetoric softening?

Why the vector of russian propagandists is changing

Despite the power of russian propaganda, it is inflexible and unable to dramatically change direction. Radical replacement of the “kremlin methodology”, and the vector of work, is extremely rare. However, it seems that this week there was just such a change.

The indicator of its beginning was the russian expert – propagandist Mykhailo Khodoryonok. He said in the broadcast of the “60 Minutes” program that russia should withdraw its troops from Ukraine. At the same time, he warned that the situation for the russian army will only worsen, since Ukraine has greater international support.

“The main disadvantage of our military-political situation is that we are in complete geopolitical isolation and practically the whole world is against us, no matter how much we do not want to admit it. It is necessary to get out of this situation”, – said M. Khodoryonok. Speaking about the military capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, he stated that “the level of professionalism of any army is determined not by its contract staffing, but by the level of personnel training and their attitude, readiness to shed blood for their Homeland. This determines the level of professionalism. After all, high morale of the personnel who shed blood for the ideas for which they are ready to fight determine victory on the battlefield.

But the most surprising thing is that this speech of M. Khodaryonka was accompanied by rather moderate comments of the host Olga Skabeeva. And this fact is even more thought-provoking.

The thesis that “not everything is so clear-cut” in the context of the war with Ukraine is spread by the russian mass media at all levels. Experts and political scientists of various caliber give forecasts close to capitulation.

Another strange fact in this situation is that, following the propagandists, the leaders of russia have also joined the replication of the thesis “not everything is so clear-cut”: representatives of the highest political leadership of the russian federation, diplomats, and even the military. The latter deepen the main thesis, and state: “russia today is not at war with Ukraine, but with the united West, unfortunately, on the territory of Ukraine and by the hands of Ukrainians”, such statements are directly opposite to those that were expressed in the media field two or three weeks ago.

And here it is important to draw the first conclusion: all communication channels impose on the population of russia the idea that “not everything is so clear-cut in the war, because we (russia) are not fighting against weak Ukraine, but against the powerful West.” In this way, even the slightest hint of revolutionary sentiment among the population of the russian federation is leveled.

At the same time, taking into account the connection to the promotion of the thesis “not everything is so clear-cut” by the top military-political leadership of the russian federation, we can come to a second conclusion: with the softening of the media rhetoric regarding the fighting in Ukraine, russia sends a clear signal to the West about the possibility of fixing the results of the war as of today , and tries to get a political backlash.

Taking into account the reaction of the “collective West”, the russian propaganda machine will continue to soften the “militant” rhetoric, or will again take a pause to build a new vector of work and prepare new “methodologies”.
