Kazakhstan’s new course will change the political map of the world

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s sensational speech at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum proved the obvious: Kazakhstan no longer wants to remain the kremlin’s satellite.

The main points of Tokayev’s speech were as follows:

Kazakhstan does not recognize the independence of the so-called DPR and LPR and supports the inviolability of the borders and territorial integrity of UN member states recognized by international law.

Kazakhstan has different opinions on the “special military operation of the rf” in Ukraine, as unlike russia, the country has a developed civil society.

The American economy has a large margin of safety and is developing dynamically, Kazakhstan is in favor of international cooperation and against self-isolation.

Kazakhstan intends to comply with the restrictions imposed on russia, as otherwise secondary sanctions may be imposed on the country..

Full import substitution in russia is impossible to achieve in principle. Hinting at who really needs to be denazified, Tokayev reminded putin that there are many xenophobic, racist TV hosts and programs on russian television that promote interethnic and interreligious hatred.

Apart from his military failures in Ukraine, putin has not been humiliated on such a large scale for a long time. Before that, Kazakhstan was considered russia’s closest ally and one of the founding members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO)..

Although the rf president did not comment on Tokayev’s words, unofficial footage shows how putin’s posture and face changed during the speech, as he was shocked by his words.

The demonstrative humiliation of putin continued when the press service of the president of Kazakhstan announced his refusal to accept the order of Alexander Nevsky, which moscow planned to award him for his cooperation with russia.

It was impossible to disavow Tokayev’s public statement, so the kremlin’s reaction was immediate.

Р. Kadyrov appealed to the CSTO members to respond harshly to Tokayev’s words.

Already on June 19, under the pretext of allegedly discovered World War II bombs, the shipment of Kazakh oil for export to Europe was blocked from the port of Novorossiysk.

Kazakhstan responded by suspending permits for the export of 1,700 railcars with russian coal through its territory.

However, putin’s attempt to somehow influence the economic situation in Kazakhstan will be extremely disadvantageous for russia, as it will further increase Kazakhstan’s turn toward China and the West.

Thus, the conflict and misunderstandings between the leaders of the kremlin and Nur-Sultan are gaining momentum and becoming systemic.

The government of Kazakhstan refused to allow russia to join the russian occupation forces in Ukraine and ruled out the possibility of deploying its peacekeeping forces to Donbas.

On April 1, a representative of the presidential administration of Kazakhstan said that the country respects the territorial integrity of Ukraine and, contrary to russian official propaganda, is not afraid to call the russian invasion of Ukraine a “war”.

In May, Kazakhstan joined the sanctions against russian banks and blocked $21.6 million on the accounts of banking institutions affiliated with the russian federation, such as Sberbank, Alfa-Bank and the Kazakhstani VTB.

On the air of the kremlin’s Rossiya 24 channel, the Kazakh leader noted that the January protests in Kazakhstan were overcome due to the collective support of the CSTO member states, not just russia, and Kazakhstan should not “serve and bow to russia forever”.

With his actions, Tokayev clearly demonstrates that the country will gradually abandon cooperation with russia as a purely raw material state and will focus on more powerful players, including China.

Tokayev’s demarche at the economic forum was not only another slap in putin’s face, but it demonstrates the failure of russia’s entire foreign policy, including in the post-soviet space.

Thus, russia will not succeed in involving its allies in the war against Ukraine. None of the leaders of the former soviet republics recognized the “independence” of the territories of Donbas, Abkhazia, and South Ossetia occupied by russia.
