Experts of the Center for Countering Disinformation, a working body of the National Security and Defense Council, speak about combating russian disinformation at the Cybersecurity Summit

On May 26, 2022, experts from the Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine took part in the National Cybersecurity Summit.

During the event, domestic and foreign leaders in the field of cybersecurity, in particular, discussed the topic “Active counteraction to disinformation and cyber threats: algorithm of communications in the international arena”.

Andriy Shapovalov, Acting Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, a working body of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, spoke about the Center’s experience and outlined current challenges and effective methods of countering disinformation.

“To combat information terrorism today, it is necessary to provide a unified definition and record the danger posed by this phenomenon,” said Andriy Shapovalov, adding that the Center has taken the initiative to bring together specialists from relevant expert groups.

He also spoke about the implemented projects that will help to comprehensively counteract disinformation. “The Center has vast practical experience in detecting and countering information attacks. In fact, we have deployed a bridgehead of information warfare,” emphasized Andriy Shapovalov.

In this regard, the acting head of the Center for Countering Disinformation noted that the Center’s analysts are working on the development of dynamic interactive maps, including predictive maps of information threats and maps of the information space.

According to him, it is equally important to build immunity to disinformation in society. To this end, the Educational Hub project is implementing multi-level training in information hygiene.

The Summit participants also discussed international experience in countering disinformation, as well as building strategic communications and ways to protect information and cyberspace through public-private partnerships.

Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Mykhailo Podolyak;

Acting Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, a working body of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Andriy Shapovalov;

Head of the Department for Support of the National Coordination Center for Cybersecurity of the specialized service of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Serhii Prokopenko;

Head of the Information Security and Cybersecurity Service of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Natalia Tkachuk;

Chief Operating Officer of CRDF Global Mykhailo Verich, as well as representatives of the United States, Estonia, NATO, and the Netherlands.
