CCD explains how the “directed comments” mechanism works in disinformation

A directed comment is a message in which a person’s thoughts are directed in the desired direction

How it works:

the message is accompanied by the commentator’s interpretation, which offers the reader several options for explanation.

Comments are written on the principle of “two-sided messages” that, at the reader’s choice, contain arguments both “for” and “against”

To make the comment believable, it alternates between positive and negative elements, and selects facts to strengthen or weaken statements and emotions.

Conclusions are not included in the comments, as they are to be drawn by the readers under the influence of the comments.

An example of using directed comments:

the tragedy in Vinnytsia was accompanied by directed comments with a large number of different arguments that led the reader to believe that it was indeed “the shelling of a military facility where the Armed Forces of Ukraine stored ammunition.”
