Oleshky blockade: the kremlin lies to evade responsibility
Against the backdrop of international attention, russia has launched a disinformation campaign aimed at denying responsibility for the humanitarian catastrophe it has caused in the temporarily occupied city of Oleshky and shifting the blame onto Ukraine.
▫️ Key kremlin mouthpieces, including representatives of russia’s ministry of foreign affairs and the occupation administration, have been involved in the information attack. They are systematically spreading false claims about an alleged “deliberate blockade of the city by Ukrainian drones,” “attacks on civilian transport,” and “mining of roads” by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, seeking to discredit Ukraine’s efforts to rescue civilians.
▫️ In this way, russia seeks to divert the international community’s attention from its own war crimes in the occupied territories of Ukraine.
In reality, it is russian forces that are deliberately blocking evacuation routes, preventing international humanitarian organizations from accessing the area, and effectively holding Oleshky’s civilian population under blockade. The occupiers have destroyed critical infrastructure, deprived people of food and medicine, and used the civilian population as a “human shield.”
