A wave of pro-russian disinformation in Slovakia
The spread of disinformation aimed at discrediting Ukraine’s leadership and shifting responsibility for the war from moscow to Kyiv has been recorded in Slovakia’s information space.
Through a number of local media platforms with a reputation for being anti-Western and pro-russian, claims are being promoted about the alleged personal interest of the President of Ukraine in continuing the hostilities. russia’s aggression is presented as «forced retaliation» or «the protection of its own interests» in response to the actions of the Ukrainian authorities and «russophobia».
Through such publications, the authors are trying to portray Ukraine to Europeans as the «culprit» behind the prolongation of the war, undermine EU support for Kyiv and provoke anti-Ukrainian sentiments in Slovak society.
Thus, audiences in European countries are being fed narratives favourable to the kremlin through local media linked to russia. These narratives distort the facts and shift the blame from the aggressor onto the victim.
