▫️ According to the russian intelligence service, security officers detained an employee of the British Embassy’s security team who allegedly collected information about the facility’s security system on the instructions of Ukrainian intelligence services. russia claims that Ukraine is allegedly seeking to “drag London into a direct conflict with russia” in this way.
In reality, this is yet another information operation by russian intelligence services aimed at creating an “alibi” for themselves in advance amid possible provocations of their own.
▫️ By accusing Ukraine of preparing attacks against foreign diplomats, moscow is attempting to shift responsibility in advance for acts of sabotage or other actions aimed at escalation that russia itself may be preparing against the UK and its representatives.
The use of such tactics is a typical tool of russian propaganda and intelligence services. In particular, similar information attacks have previously been carried out repeatedly by russia’s foreign intelligence service. russia regularly makes false accusations to discredit Ukraine in the eyes of its partners and divert attention from its own hybrid threats in Europe.
