russia’s “elections” in the TOTs: control disguised as “information”
russia has launched an information operation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine under the guise of providing information about the September “state duma elections.”
▫️ Occupation administrations in Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions are sending agitators and members of so-called “election commissions” door to door on a mass scale. This is presented as “providing information about the elections.”
▫️ In reality, the kremlin is carrying out large-scale population inventory and inspection. Under the pretext of “providing information,” occupiers may cross-check demographic databases, identify vacant homes for subsequent confiscation, and record people who continue to avoid obtaining russian passports and cooperating with the occupation regime. In other words, this amounts to total surveillance and psychological pressure.
The project may also be aimed at preparing for large-scale election fraud. Visitors are collecting requests in advance for so-called “home voting” and early voting procedures in order to ensure pre-determined turnout figures.
