russia tries to prove the “illegality” of sanctions

The kremlin has launched a new information campaign aimed at questioning the legitimacy and legality of international sanctions against russia.

Previously, russian propagandists promoted narratives claiming that anti-russian sanctions were ineffective, had no impact on the russian economy, and instead harmed the countries that imposed them. Now the messaging has changed. Even dictator vladimir putin has voiced complaints against “unfriendly countries.”

Claims promoted by russian propaganda in international media that sanctions against russia are allegedly illegal are unfounded. According to a UN General Assembly resolution, russia committed an act of aggression against Ukraine. moscow has blatantly violated international law, including the Helsinki Final Act and the UN Charter, which uphold the principles of state sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Sanctions are a direct consequence of the kremlin’s unlawful actions, including the occupation of Ukrainian territories, the destruction of civilian infrastructure, and the killing of civilians.
