Fake claim about “2.4 million AFU casualties”: russian propaganda scales up its lies
Claims by russian propaganda that 2.4 million Ukrainian servicemen have been killed or gone missing in the war against russia are false.
◽️ Enemy resources are actively spreading this disinformation. They claim the source of the information is “russian hackers” who allegedly breached the databases of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Centers, and medical institutions.
In reality, these claims are fabricated. The casualty figures cited by the russians exceed the total size of Ukraine’s armed forces.
◽️ This is a continuation of a long-running russian disinformation campaign. Previously, propagandists widely promoted the claim of 1.7 million Ukrainian casualties. The Center has already debunked this fake. Having failed to come up with anything new, kremlin propagandists simply added another 700,000 to their old lie.
The goal of this disinformation is to divert attention from russia’s own battlefield losses. It is worth noting that russia loses between 40,000 and 50,000 soldiers killed and wounded every month.
