Large-scale disinformation campaign didn’t help kremlin in Armenia
Despite russia’s active attempts to influence the outcome of the parliamentary elections in Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan’s pro-European party secured a convincing victory.
During the election campaign, russian information influence networks actively spread fakes, manipulations, and disinformation about the pro-European government. For example, through information influence structures, including the large-scale network “matryoshka”, fake publications were disseminated, styled as materials from Western media, which discredited the Armenian authorities and the Prime Minister personally.
There was also the spread of fake videos with appeals on behalf of Hollywood stars and manipulative messages about alleged election fraud in favor of the country’s current authorities.
However, these efforts did not lead to the expected results and became another foreign policy failure for the kremlin.
In countering the russian information influence campaign, Armenia was actively assisted by European information security structures. In particular, the special state service of France, subordinated to the General Secretariat for National Defense and Security (SGDSN) VIGINUM.
russia’s defeat in Armenia continued the trend of russia losing influence in the South Caucasus and Eastern Europe, which, among other things, will affect the internal stability of the Russian government.
