The coordinator of a russian disinformation network was detained in Argentina

The Government of Argentina announced the detention of russian citizen dmitry novikov. He is one of the leaders of the extensive russian influence network La Compañía, which operated against Argentine institutions and the government of President Javier Milei.

▫️ The La Compañía network, also known as “Lakhta,” is coordinated by russian intelligence services and had links to the wagner PMC. Argentina’s Minister of Security Alejandra Monteoliva described novikov as “a threat to the democratic order” who “came to destabilize and undermine” the country’s institutions.

The documented activities of this network in Argentina were aimed, among other things, at the systematic discrediting of Javier Milei because of his open support for Ukraine and Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Enemy bot farms spread manipulative narratives claiming that solidarity with Ukraine was “following Washington’s orders” and would “cost taxpayers dearly.”

This incident is clear evidence that russia views the information space as a full-fledged battlefield and seeks to expand its influence across all regions of the world where governments demonstrate solidarity with Ukraine. The kremlin spares no resources in financing shadow structures that manipulate public opinion, create artificial divisions within democratic societies, and attempt to intimidate Ukraine’s international partners.
