The Center took part in the Kyiv Security Forum
Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, Ukrainian Defense Forces officer Andrii Kovalenko took part in the 18th Kyiv Security Forum (KSF).
▫️ Participants in the panel discussion dedicated to disinformation in the age of AI addressed cognitive warfare, the use of artificial intelligence in offensive operations, the technological race in software for detecting synthetic content, the development of tools for creating deepfakes, state cooperation with platforms to limit propaganda, and legislative initiatives, among other topics.
▫️ A. Kovalenko outlined how the kremlin uses artificial intelligence to conduct information operations. According to him, russians have intensified the technique of “poisoning” large language models (LLMs).
▫️ At the same time, AI is widely used in cognitive warfare: millions of posts are analyzed to build emotional audience maps in order to apply targeted psychological pressure, enhanced by neural networks.
▫️ In this context, A. Kovalenko emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation with Big Tech platforms to expand the blocking of harmful content and to enable automated detection and neutralization of hostile influence. He also highlighted the need for legislative changes aimed at improving cooperation with Meta, YouTube, TikTok, and others.
▫️ The Center’s head also noted that countering russian disinformation requires not only analysis and forecasting of threats and campaigns, but also proactive actions, including in the adversary’s information space.
The discussion also featured Roman Goncharenko, Eastern Europe editor at Deutsche Welle; Ihor Rozkladai, Deputy Director of the Center for Democracy and Rule of Law; Adam Ruttland, CEO of the Centre for Information Resilience (UK); and Liubov Tsybulska, founder and director of Join Ukraine (moderator).
