kremlin forces bloggers to serve propaganda
russia’s federation council has initiated legislation that would oblige bloggers to disseminate propaganda advertising.
▫️ The draft law provides for the mandatory placement of advertising promoting “traditional values,” “patriotism,” “culture,” and similar narratives on all major online platforms, accounting for no less than 5% of all advertising content.
▫️ In addition, all owners of large public channels and social media accounts would be required to place such advertising.
This initiative is another step toward establishing total kremlin control over social media and bloggers in russia. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, russian authorities have systematically coerced bloggers into publicly justifying the so-called “special military operation” and promoting propaganda narratives. Those who refuse to work in the kremlin’s interests face repression, including real prison sentences for allegedly spreading “fake information about the russian armed forces.”
