Fake about “a Ukrainian woman at ZUS delaying Polish pension applications”

A fake story is circulating in Poland about “a Ukrainian woman from the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS)” allegedly delaying the processing of Polish pension applications on purpose.

▫️A video is actively spreading on social media claiming that the woman works at the ZUS office in Szczecin, Poland. The posts are accompanied by anti-Ukrainian comments and calls to fire Ukrainians from Polish state institutions.

ZUS has officially refuted these claims, confirming that no such employee works at the Szczecin branch. They added that any delays in processing applications depend only on objective reasons — such as case complexity or missing documents.

Such disinformation aims to incite anti-Ukrainian sentiment in Poland and create division between Poles and Ukrainians — a typical element of russia’s information operations in neighboring countries. Social media accounts spreading these fakes — knowingly or not — assist the kremlin’s efforts to destabilize Poland.

Earlier, the Center recorded an uptick in pro-russian messaging in the Polish online space and debunked fakes about Ukrainians — including a fabricated video showing “a Ukrainian woman angry about Polish aid” and a hoax about “privileged treatment of Ukrainian soldiers in Poland.”
