Anti-Azerbaijani hysteria of ru-propaganda: the Kremlin is losing influence in the region
russian propaganda has launched a new wave of harsh anti-Azerbaijani rhetoric — from accusations of “selling out to the West” to direct threats of war.
▫️ The trigger was a statement by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his signed order to allocate $2 million for humanitarian aid to Ukraine following russian strikes on the SOCAR oil depot in the Odesa region and the gas compressor station that transports Azerbaijani gas to Ukraine. The funds will be used to purchase Azerbaijani electrical equipment and deliver it to Ukraine.
This hysterical reaction of the kremlin media is simple to explain: russia understands that it is losing its influence in the South Caucasus. moscow can no longer dictate its political or economic will to Azerbaijan. Therefore, propaganda tries to compensate for the loss of real leverage with threats, distortion of facts, and escalation of “war” rhetoric for the domestic russian audience.
Baku consistently pursues a policy of liberation from russian dominance and strengthens resistance to kremlin propaganda. In particular, the so-called “russian House” in Azerbaijan, which operated under the aegis of “rossotrudnichestvo” and promoted russian interests, was previously closed. The Azerbaijani authorities have also restricted the activities of several russian propaganda media.
