Why has russia intensified the spread of fakes about alleged “atrocities of the AFU”
Against the backdrop of massive russian strikes on Ukrainian civilians, russian propaganda has once again intensified a disinformation campaign about alleged “atrocities by AFU in the kursk region.”
▫️ russian media have resumed spreading disinformation about supposed mass killings of civilians in russia’s kursk region by Ukrainian troops. Particularly active are the statements from kursk region prosecutor oleksii tsukanov, claiming that “Ukrainian nazis, intent on genocide against russians, are deliberately killing peaceful russian civilians, including children, women, and the elderly.”
▫️ Additionally, propagandists are once again circulating old fake stories in the information space, such as the alleged “murder of a pregnant woman,” “pensioners,” and others. At the same time, no evidence of these so-called “crimes” has ever been presented — and still does not exist.
This renewed campaign about “atrocities by Ukrainian forces in the kursk region” is a russian attempt to shift the focus of attention — including that of the international community — away from russia’s massive drone and missile strikes on civilian targets in Ukraine.
