The degree of “Victory Cult” in the TOT is growing as May 9 approaches
The occupation authorities in Severodonetsk organized another absurd event for “victory day” — in one of the children’s sports schools, they gathered the locals to complete the kremlin’s task of doing 29,220 push-ups.
▫️ This number of peaceful days was calculated by the occupiers from the date of the victory over nazism in World War II. At the same time, the three years of occupation of Luhansk region are also considered “peaceful” by the russians. However, the “record” was not achieved –- the resource only allowed for more than 3,600 repetitions of this exercise.
▫️ The closer the key date for the kremlin — May 9 — the stronger the level of propagandist fanaticism and large-scale ideological fever intensifies in the temporarily occupied territories, the cult of “victory” over real facts and common sense is being built, and huge efforts and resources are directed towards organizing pseudo-celebrations. The Center for Countering Disinformation reported that for the “victory day” celebrations in the russian federation, at least 1.5 billion rubles ($18.6 million) will be spent, amid serious economic problems that continue to grow in the conditions of enormous spending on the war and sanctions.
By rewriting history, promoting myths about the “great patriotic war,” and speculating on “common past,” the russians are trying to impose a narrative on the residents of the temporarily occupied territories about the “exceptional role” of the russian federation in the defeat of Nazism, in order to justify their aggression against Ukraine and their own crimes.
