Why Did Putin Announce the Largest Conscription Campaign
russian dictator vladimir putin has announced the most large-scale conscription of conscripts in the past 14 years.
This spring, the ministry of defense of the russian federation plans to add 160,000 people to the army. This is more than in any of the previous three years of full-scale war.
▫️ In spring 2022, 134,500 people were sent to service, in autumn – 120,000. In 2023, 147,000 were drafted in the spring and 130,000 in the fall. In 2024 – 150,000 and 133,000 respectively.
Although the russian authorities claim that conscripts are not sent to the combat zone, once in service, they are forced to sign contracts “voluntarily” and end up on the front line. Thus, conscription has become one of the kremlin’s tools to compensate for heavy losses at the front.
This conscription campaign may also indicate that, despite official statements about peace, russia actually seeks to prolong the war.
