How Putin is driving Russia into an energy crisis
Russian government agencies are more often announcing plans to buy electricity from China to cover the deficit in the Far East. Russian propagandists are trying to present the problem of electricity shortages as part of a global trend, saying that demand is growing all over the world. But this is an obvious distortion of reality.
▫️ Despite the fact that Russia has the world’s largest energy reserves, the country’s infrastructure is no longer able to meet even its own electricity needs. The war is consuming huge resources. But instead of building new power plants and modernizing outdated power grids, the Kremlin is financing missiles and tanks. Sanctions are also limiting technological development – critical equipment has become unavailable to Russia.
The energy crisis in Russia has become another consequence of the Kremlin’s decision to invade Ukraine. Putin himself is destroying the myth of Russia as an “energy superpower” that has been exploited by ru-propaganda for decades.
