How Putin buys loyalty of police and FSB
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has signed a decree that provides for an increase of up to 4 million rubles in payments not only to military personnel injured in the so-called “special military operation” zone, but also to members of the Russian National Guard, police, FSB, etc.
On one hand, this is another “benefit” aimed at encouraging the poorest Russians to voluntarily join the war in Ukraine. However, the number of such volunteers is steadily declining, forcing the Kremlin to raise payments.
At the same time, Putin is courting the security forces, the backbone of the regime, as they suppress any protests against the war. Recent changes in Russian legislation now guarantee these forces full protection from mobilization and increased payments in case of injury.
