A “bang” in Russian financial system
In their attempts to reassure Russians amid the collapse of the ruble, officials are resorting to absurdities, inventing new terms in the propaganda “newspeak”.
For example, Russian propaganda introduced the word “bangs” to avoid scaring people with the word “explosions.” Now, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov talks about how “the erosion of the dollar is gaining strength,” while the head of the state-owned VTB Bank, Andrey Kostin, calls the ruble’s collapse a mere “correction,” claiming that Russians don’t seem to care.
