russia declares its readiness to interfere in belarus’ elections
russian ambassador to belarus boris gryzlov said that russia would support the lukashenko regime in the event of “provocations from the West” during the 2025 presidential election.
Such assistance, according to gryzlov, will be provided “within the framework of strategic partnership obligations” if the belarusian authorities request it.
With these statements, the kremlin has effectively confirmed its readiness to interfere in the elections of the neighboring, formally independent country, and is prepared to use force to prevent any change in power. Gryzlov also emphasized that russia views any opposition in belarus as agents of Western intelligence services. This further highlights that lukashenko’s regime is now entirely dependent on the kremlin.
