After unsuccessful nuclear blackmail, putin turns to new intimidation tactics
At a meeting with international journalists, the russian dictator reiterated a standard set of propaganda points and threatened the West with “asymmetric responses.”
▫️ He once again insisted that Ukraine started the war, repeated the claim about 8 years of “russian blood being shed in Donbas,” and alleged that the Ukrainian government is illegitimate.
▫️ The russian dictator also emphasized that russia could supply weapons to regions of the world from where it could strike targets in countries supplying Ukraine with weapons, allowing Ukraine to strike russian territory. He hinted that russia’s response could be “asymmetrical.”
putin sees that his nuclear threats have not had the expected effect, Ukraine has gained the ability to strike russian territory, and he has no room left to raise the stakes.
Therefore, he is inventing “asymmetric responses” to maintain the degree of escalation and somehow try to further intimidate the West.
