Russia’s largest aluminum producer Rusal cuts production
As explained by the company, the reduction in production by 250,000 tons per year was due to rising prices for aluminum raw material alumina, which rendered the company unprofitable.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Russian manufacturer lost access to raw materials from the Mykolaiv Alumina Plant, as well as from suppliers in Ireland and Australia. Additionally, the United States imposed a 200% duty on aluminum imports from Russia, and European countries imposed sanctions on this sector of Russian industry.
Amid sanctions and unfavorable international conditions, crises are evident across many sectors of Russian industry, which can no longer be hidden behind propaganda claims of “successful import substitution” and economic growth.
In reality, the Russian economy is growing solely due to the military-industrial complex, funded directly from the Russian budget, while the general population faces declining living standards.
