russia’s Aviation Industry Continues to Rapidly Deteriorate

In December, two dangerous incidents involving passenger aircraft operated by russian airlines occurred, both of which could have led to the deaths of hundreds of people.

◽️ On December 16, a Boeing 777 bound from moscow to Cuba experienced an engine fire during takeoff. More than 450 people were on board at the time. A similar incident occurred earlier in December with another Boeing 777 scheduled to fly to Thailand.

◽️ Such incidents have become routine and point to a systemic crisis across russia’s aviation sector. The number of technical failures is rising sharply, and the industry is entering a phase of chronic fleet deterioration that can no longer be concealed by vague references to “technical malfunctions.”

Passenger air travel in russia now poses a real threat to human life. This is a direct consequence of sanctions and the kremlin’s deliberate choice to continue the war instead of ensuring the safety of its own citizens.
