russia Cuts Internet Access When Using VPN

In russia, cases of home internet being cut off when using VPNs are being recorded.

▫️It is reported that if a VPN is detected, providers change DNS settings, completely blocking network access. Subscribers can restore the connection manually, but the problem recurs if the VPN is used again.

The russian authorities are systematically working to block russians’ access to sources of information not controlled by the kremlin, imposing penalties for searching for so-called “extremist materials” and advertising VPN services, massively shutting down mobile internet, and blocking access to independent information sources.

The kremlin’s ultimate goal is the complete informational isolation of its population and the creation of a “sovereign internet” consisting solely of government-controlled propaganda resources.
