Miners’ strikes begin in Russia
Employees of the Inskaya coal mine in Kuzbass, who have not received their wages for more than four months, have announced a strike. The miners are determined to continue the strike until their salaries are paid.
In October, Inskaya workers went on a hunger strike over unpaid wages. At that time, management promised to pay the arrears but failed to deliver. By November, miners were dismissed from their jobs, and the debt to employees had reached 46 million rubles.
This situation at the Inskaya mine reflects the growing crisis in Russia’s coal mining industry, driven by sanctions and the resulting loss of coal markets. The industry is increasingly plagued by unprofitability, reduced production, layoffs, and mine closures.
Similar challenges are evident in other sectors of the Russian economy, such as diamond mining, the pulp and paper industry, and even oil refining.
The war launched by the Kremlin against Ukraine is gradually eroding the Russian economy.
