How Moscow is “deploying troops” into the media space

The Russian Union of Journalists has applied for a presidential grant to fund an educational project for participants in the war against Ukraine. The initiative seeks to teach military personnel how to create and promote content.

The application emphasizes that the Russian Federation aims to cultivate “a new generation of future media professionals” capable of “creating and restoring ideological and historical traditions, shaping shared values and criteria of existence.”

This project fits into the Kremlin’s broader strategy of militarizing society. By integrating participants in the war against Ukraine into various aspects of civilian life, Russian authorities aim to “normalize” the war and bolster public support for it.

The Center also reported that this year, for the first time, participants in the war against Ukraine were invited to appear on the traditional Russian New Year’s television program Goluboy Ogonek (Blue Light).
