Anti-Ukrainian propaganda in belarus. Alexey Avdonin
The Center for Countering Disinformation continues its series on key figures behind anti-Ukrainian propaganda in belarus. One of the most influential belarusian propagandists is alexey avdonin, an analyst at the belarusian institute of strategic studies.
avdonin, known as a “lukashenko analyst,” is a frequent guest on russian and belarusian TV channels. He follows the pro-government propaganda line, especially regarding Ukraine, using the usual kremlin disinformation messages.
avdonin promotes the following narratives about Ukraine:
▫️ “The West is fighting russia through Ukraine”;
▫️ “Europe is using Ukraine but doesn’t want to accept it into its elite circle”;
▫️ “Ukraine is under external control”;
▫️ “Ukraine is a source of instability in Europe and a haven for terrorists.”
Using anti-Western rhetoric, avdonin attempts to justify russia’s aggression against Ukraine. In the worldview he presents to his audience, it’s not ordinary Ukrainians who suffer from the war but the “hated West.”
