«Atrocities of Ukrainian convicts» and «toilets in sudja»: new ru-propaganda fakes about events in kursk region

The Center for Countering Disinformation continues to monitor the russian information space and identify new fakes and manipulations about the events in the kursk region spread by enemy propaganda.

The CCD recorded another wave of disinformation publications around the following topics:

▫️ «Ukrainian prisoners». In order to demonise Ukrainian troops, enemy propagandists have invented a fake about a «company of convicts» that commits atrocities in the kursk region and spares no one. This unit allegedly received orders to shoot all civilians, including women, children and the elderly.

▫️ «Abductions of civilians». «Eyewitness testimonies» are being circulated alleging the abduction of civilians by the Ukrainian military and their transfer across the border. Ukraine does not commit such violations of international humanitarian law.

▫️ «Gas attacks». ru-propagandists claim that the Ukrainian military is using drones to «spray an unexplained gas» in the kursk region. However, there is no evidence to support these allegations.

▫️ «Stolen toilets». In their creative efforts to discredit the Ukrainian military, enemy propagandists decided to draw inspiration from the experience of their own military in the occupied territories of Ukraine and issued a fake about the sale of stolen toilets through Ukrainian classifieds services.

▫️ «Branding for russians». Apparently, the topic of «branding residents of the kursk region» has gone down well with russians, so propagandists are producing more and more stories about branding devices with a trident allegedly found among the belongings of the Ukrainian military.

▫️ «Grain carriers for evacuation». The enemy justifies the attack on grain trucks in Sumy region by inventing fakes that these trucks were used to evacuate Ukrainian soldiers from the kursk region.

▫️ «Looting». russians continue to use volunteer reports to generate fakes. Videos of the military thanking volunteers for the delivered property and goodies are presented as if it were our soldiers showing off the loot.
