▫️ Throughout the week, Southeast Asian media focused significantly on events related to the 79th session of the UN General Assembly and the visit of the President of Ukraine to the United States. Various media outlets published quotes from world leaders’ speeches at the UN General Assembly, which called for continued support for Ukraine.
▫️ The media in this region also emphasized the need for UN reform, highlighting the organization’s inability to adequately address the challenges posed by the wars in Ukraine and Gaza. The media also underlined the unfairness of the current structure, where permanent members of the UN Security Council have broader powers, particularly the veto right. Notably, Indian media promoted the idea that India should become a permanent member of the Security Council, allowing the “voice of the Global South” to be heard more effectively.
