What Global South media write about Ukraine: Latin America
The Center continues to monitor the information environment of the Global South, identifying narratives favorable to russia.
▫️ This week, Middle Eastern and African media widely citculated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s statement that russia will not make peace unless it is forced to. Meanwhile, putin’s nuclear threats and kremlin spokesman dmitry peskov’s remarks that “forcing russia to make peace is a fatal mistake” and that the war will only end when russia “achieves its goals” were also actively circulated.
▫️ Middle Eastern journalists gave significant attention to Qatar’s mediation role in the return of deported Ukrainian children from russia. Through this agreement, ten children were reunited with their families.
▫️ African media continued to focus on accusations of Ukraine’s alleged support for separatists in Mali, who are referred to as “terrorists” in many reports. This narrative is being actively used by kremlin propaganda as part of its information war against Ukraine.
