The water situation in occupied Donetsk is deteriorating
Despite recent statements by representatives of the russian occupation administration in temporarily occupied Donetsk about an alleged “increase in the number of water tankers,” access to water in the city continues to worsen.
Water is delivered only once every four days. Local news outlets publish videos showing elderly people and children forced to stand in long queues in freezing temperatures. In reality, access to water is available only to those who can come during the daytime. For residents returning from work in the evening, water supplies are already exhausted.
City residents are in despair, while occupation authorities offer no solutions to the problem. Instead, in their public statements they focus on the military situation, upcoming elections to the state duma of the russian federation, and plans for road repairs, mentioning the water crisis less and less frequently.
The humanitarian catastrophe caused by the lack of water in Donetsk demonstrates the true cost of russian occupation. russia has no intention of developing the seized territories as a space for civilian life; it views them exclusively as an instrument of war.
