Recruitment of residents from TOT into russian army is a war crime
russian propaganda announced that for the first time residents of the occupied parts of the Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions have been conscripted into the russian armed forces. Such actions by the occupiers violate the Geneva Conventions and constitute a war crime under international law.
The earlier promises by the kremlin-appointed governor of the Zaporizhzhia region, yevhen balytskyi, that no one in the occupied region would be mobilized for “at least five years” have proven false. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, russia has forcibly sent residents of the occupied Donetsk and Luhansk regions to the front without proper equipment or training.
This conscription further exposes the kremlin’s disregard for the occupied population, treating them as expendable “cannon fodder” rather than demonstrating any genuine “concern” for their well-being, as russian propaganda claims.
