Occupiers accelerate seizure of housing from lawful owners in TOT

The occupation administration in Donetsk region has announced a new phase of large-scale appropriation of Ukrainian property.

▫️ The kremlin-appointed head denys pushylin stated that housing belonging to people who have left for “unfriendly countries,” including territories under Ukrainian control, will be more rapidly transferred to those “in need.” To facilitate this, occupiers have decided to shorten the so-called inventory period. While owners were previously given until 2028 to complete document re-registration, the deadline has now been reduced to July 1, 2026.

▫️ Claims about providing housing to the “needy” are a blatant falsehood used to conceal illegal property appropriation. In practice, thousands of local residents whose homes were destroyed by russian shelling have been unable for years to receive promised compensation. Instead, “ownerless” apartments are either seized by occupation officials or handed over to newcomers from russia.

The mass seizure of housing under the pretext of “absence of owners” is yet another war crime aimed at replacing the local population in TOT with people loyal to the occupation regime.
