How AI content is used for disinformation about power outages
The Center is recording another wave of AI-generated content on social media being used to spread narratives favorable to russia regarding power outages in Ukraine.
▫️ Fully AI-generated videos are being circulated, in which the characters promote claims that the outages are allegedly deliberate actions by the Ukrainian authorities, that they occur because Ukraine is selling electricity abroad, or that the outages are unfairly implemented, among other false narratives.
Such generated videos are most actively distributed on TikTok, disguised as humorous content, which is one of the adversary’s tactics. The real goal of this campaign is to impose enemy-friendly fakes on Ukrainians about the causes of power outages and to destabilize the internal situation in Ukraine.
In reality, the only reason for power outages is russia’s terrorist strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
