Fake about Ukraine’s 84th place in the world by IQ
russian propaganda outlets are once again spreading the fake claim that Ukraine ranks 84th in the world by average IQ, while russia ranks 6th.
▫️The russians cite data from The International IQ Test website. This is one of many online tests for internet users. The site also provides aggregated country-level data and creates an annual ranking of countries by average IQ.
In reality, the site’s rankings are not reliable and cannot be considered accurate, as neither the tests themselves nor the methods for collecting and processing data meet proper methodological standards. These data should be viewed solely as entertainment content.
▫️Any user can take the test an unlimited number of times, manually selecting their country each time. As a result, the results for each country can be easily manipulated. Notably, russian propaganda has been recycling this fake for the second year in a row, ever since russia suddenly jumped from 26th to 6th place in this ranking.
Considering that a disproportionate number of users took the test from Ukraine (over 91,000 users, compared to only 29,000 from russia) and the frequency with which russian propaganda promotes the story of “backward Ukrainians,” it is highly likely that Ukraine’s ranking was deliberately manipulated by russia for propaganda purposes.
