Agreement with Nicaragua: kremlin imitates “international recognition” of occupied territories
kremlin media are actively spreading the news about the signing of “economic cooperation agreements” between Nicaragua and the occupation administrations in Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions, as well as in Sevastopol. kremlin-loyal commentators speak about “shared interests” and call it a “significant event.”
▫️ In reality, we are talking about one of the poorest countries in Latin America: Nicaragua’s economy depends on agriculture and remittances from migrants. Therefore, there are no grounds to expect significant investments or large-scale cooperation projects from such a state.
It is noteworthy that these “agreements” are signed not with russia but specifically with the occupied territories. Since russia constantly claims that they are allegedly “part of the rf,” signing such a document at the Moscow level would be more logical. However, in the propaganda narrative, it is more advantageous to present the occupied territories as independent “subjects” with which other countries establish relations. In this way, moscow seeks to imitate “international recognition” of the occupation.
