Why is putin hosting a summit with Arab countries

russian Dictator Vladimir Putin has significantly stepped up his diplomatic efforts in the Middle East in recent days.

▫️After recent meetings with the emir of Qatar and the foreign minister of Iran, today Putin held talks with the sultan of Oman and announced a summit between Russia and the Arab states this year.

In the context of the war against Ukraine, Western sanctions and after the fall of the al-Assad regime in Syria, the Russian dictator is trying to maintain and increase Russia’s influence in the Middle East. Against the backdrop of deteriorating relations between Russia’s ally Iran and the United States, it is important for the Kremlin to maintain military cooperation with Tehran and prevent a significant decline in oil prices, which could finally bring down the Russian economy.

Moscow’s efforts in the Middle East may be another indication that Putin is determined to continue the war, despite his public statements about “readiness for peace.”
