russia is losing its positions in Africa
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated that russia has suffered a defeat on the African continent.
▫️ Following the “Africa Forward” summit held in Nairobi, the minister said in comments to journalists that trade and investment between France and Africa significantly exceed moscow’s share on the continent.
▫️ The situation indicates that moscow’s economic model, based solely on the primitive exploitation of natural resources in the Sahel in exchange for services provided by mercenaries of the so-called “Africa Corps,” is not effective.
▫️ All large-scale kremlin financial injections into African projects and regular “forgiveness” of multi-billion-dollar debts will not bring moscow any strategic results.
russia is focused on buying the loyalty of local elites. However, these steps are only temporary and are doomed to fail in the long term. They do not create a real economic foundation for the continent’s development; therefore, russia’s position in Africa will become increasingly vulnerable over time.
