ru-propaganda has launched another information campaign against Moldova, claiming that the russian orthodox church is being oppressed.This was caused by the detention of roc bishop Markel at Chișinău airport. He claimed it was done solely to prevent him from travelling to Jerusalem to collect the Holy Fire.
In reality, Bishop Markel arrived at the airport late and failed to complete the necessary control procedures in time, missing his flight by 30 minutes. However, russia is using this incident to demonize Moldova’s pro-European government ahead of the parliamentary elections and simultaneously to intimidate Moldovans with talk of “division” and a potential war, as in Ukraine.
Bishop Markel is known for being fined last year for campaigning in church in support of a candidate linked to the pro-russian “Shor” party. It’s no surprise, then, that Moldova’s Socialist Party and russian state media have already voiced their support for the “oppressed” clergyman.
