How real is the collapse of the russian empire

Discussions about the reconstruction of russia and the decolonization of its peoples are increasingly moving from theory to practice.

On January 31, members of the initiative groups representing five russian regions – Königsberg, Ingria, Ural, Siberia and Kuban during the 5th “Forum of Free Peoples of Post-russia” announced in the European Parliament in Brussels about holding online referendums for the independence of the regions from the russian federation .

“We announce the beginning of the process of secession from moscow and the first referendums of free people who inhabit Königsberg, Ingria, Siberia, the Urals and the Kuban, on the sovereignty of our states,” the statement reads.

The following were declared the main slogans of the referendums:

🔸”Enough to feed Moscow!”, 🔸”Enough to die for the kremlin!”, 🔸”Vote for the Independence of your republic! Choose a happy future for yourself and your children!”.

The start of the online referendum is scheduled for February 16. The organizers promise to announce the name of the platform on which it will be held in advance.

The Free Nations of Post-Russia Forum (FNRF or FSNR) is a communication platform of leaders of regional movements and representatives of the indigenous peoples of russia, which aims at the reconstruction of the modern russian state, the unconditional components of which will be de-imperialization, decolonization, denazification, demilitarization and denuclearization.

The actual goal is the disintegration of the russian federation. Previous FNRF were held in Warsaw (in May 2022), Prague (in July 2022), Gdansk (in September 2022) and Helsingborg (in December 2022).

❓How realistic are the hopes for the collapse of the russian federation?

The idea of forming independent states on the site of present-day russia has been talked about for many years. If in August 1990, Yeltsin still proclaimed to all the union republics to “take as much sovereignty as you can swallow”, then after the collapse of the USSR, such theses sounded less and less. And with the coming to power of his “successor” putin, a total return to the rigid model of centralization began.

The kremlin did everything to erase from history the fact that in 1992-1993, not only Chechnya-Ichkeria, but also Tatarstan loudly declared their desire to leave the russian federation. Then Chechnya was occupied again, and Kazan was held by threats of a transport blockade and promises of the widest autonomy. During the decades of putin’s rule, even the once rich regions of russia have turned into depressed raw materials appendages. As a result of such a strategy, a democratic civil society was never formed in modern russia, and habituation to a bad life and indifference to everything that was happening became the norm.

Therefore, it is obvious that the path from russia to post-russia will not be easy.

However, it was February 24, 2022 that became the point of no return on the path to the collapse of russia. After all, social inequality, lack of political freedoms, and inter-ethnic intolerance were joined by a failed war.

The main of the propagandistic theses of the justification for aggression is the positioning of Ukraine as a “state sewn from the pieces”, while russia itself, even after 1991 remains a “patchwork” empire, became a catalyst for national anti-war movements.

Against the background of the demonstrative mobilization for the war against Ukraine mainly of Buryats, Tuvans, Mordvins, Ichkerians, Karelians and other “non-russian” peoples, against the slogans against the war and sabotage of the mobilization, calls for autonomy and separation from russia are increasingly being heard in national centers.

Therefore, the victory of Ukraine in the war against russia is fundamentally important for the beginning of the transformation of russian statehood and makes the prospects of reformatting the current russian federation real.
