russia prepares an “information alibi” ahead of elections to justify vote rigging
russian propaganda is actively spreading a statement by a state duma deputy claiming that “extremists and foreign agents” are allegedly preparing fake exit polls at polling stations in russian embassies on September 20.
It is claimed that russia’s enemies will use data from these exit polls and opinion polls to “claim that the elections were rigged even before they are over.”
In reality, by spreading such statements, the russian authorities are preparing an information alibi by preemptively portraying any reports of violations and discrepancies between the “elections in russia” and democratic standards as the work of “foreign agents and extremists.”
As the Center has previously reported, the russian authorities have launched a large-scale propaganda campaign ahead of the so-called elections in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. At the same time, these “elections” are organized in a way that makes it as easy as possible to “produce” any result desired by the kremlin.
Any “elections” organized by the occupiers in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine are legally null and void, and the “authorities” elected through them are illegitimate.
