New AI campaign: how a “bad Ukrainian woman” image is being fabricated on Polish TikTok
A new information campaign aimed at discrediting Ukrainians and shaping a negative image of them has been detected in the Polish segment of TikTok. The authors use artificial intelligence technologies to achieve wider reach.
▫️ A network of AI-powered accounts has appeared on TikTok, sharing fabricated stories allegedly told from the perspective of a young Ukrainian woman who moved to Warsaw. In these videos, the AI-generated character is portrayed in an exaggerated and repulsive way: she is uneducated, materialistic, publicly complains about “small” social benefits, and looks for a “wealthy Pole.” Some of these videos have already gained over one million views.
The authors present these videos as “humor,” but such content may pose real risks. It artificially fuels xenophobic sentiments, exploits sensitive socio-economic issues, and contributes to rising tensions between Poles and Ukrainians.
It is worth noting that this is not the first case of using similar technologies. Earlier, a network of fake “dating advertisements” was detected in the Polish segment of Facebook, where AI was used to create offensive portrayals of “Ukrainian women.”
