Fake about alleged involvement of Ukrainian chaplains in forming “barrier units”

ru-propaganda continues its campaign to discredit the Ukrainian Defense Forces, this time targeting the Military Chaplaincy Service.

▫️ russian propaganda media are spreading absurd claims that Ukrainian chaplains are involved in forming “barrier units” within the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They allege that chaplains are “former members of nationalist battalions” and are trained according to “NATO instructions.” As “evidence,” a speaker in a propaganda video displays religious literature, documents, and Ukrainian military awards.

▫️ In reality, these claims are false. The activities of Ukraine’s Military Chaplaincy Service are regulated by law and aimed at providing spiritual and psychological support to service members, not performing policing or punitive functions. Chaplains are unarmed, do not participate in combat, and have no authority to form any military units.

The purpose of this campaign is to sow distrust toward military leadership and chaplains, discredit the Military Chaplaincy Service as an institution, and demoralize Ukrainian service members.

Claims about the existence of “barrier units” in the Ukrainian military are also fabricated. The Center has repeatedly debunked russian fakes on this topic. This is a persistent propaganda narrative with no evidence, used solely to provide informational cover for russia’s own crimes.
