Why Russia wants to imprison more minors

In reality, lowering the age of criminal responsibility is another element of kremlin’s systemic policy of “tightening the screws.” Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, russian authorities have consistently strengthened criminal legislation, primarily for “crimes” of disloyalty to russian policies. In this way, kremlin seeks to make any form of dissent impossible.
Moreover, russian authorities are directly interested in having as many prisoners as possible in russian jails, as correctional facilities are one of the key sources for replenishing russia’s army for the war against Ukraine.
