How Russia uses “Pushkin Days” to destroy the identity of people in the TOT
Ahead of the so-called “russian language day,” celebrated in russia on June 6th, the birthday of poet alexander pushkin, russia has launched a large-scale propaganda campaign in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
▫️ occupation administrations have organized a series of events, actively involving children and youth. Propagandists are promoting false narratives about the “historical russianness” of Donbas and Southern Ukraine, once again attempting to justify the occupation of Ukrainian territories.
▫️ The gauleiters in their messages repeat clichés of russian propaganda about the “unified cultural code,” the “great russian family,” and the “historical choice” of the residents of the temporarily occupied territories. russian language is presented as supposedly an organic and irreplaceable part of the local population’s identity.
Under the guise of such “apolitical festive events,” russia continues its policy of cultural occupation of Ukrainian territories. Through “pushkin days,” russia legitimizes its aggression against Ukraine, imposing false historical parallels and justifying the war with the “common language.”
